Profile

Technical Marine Service, Inc. (TMS) was formed in 1987 by Dan Gray and Dennis Jackson, whose goal was to "Look beyond the obvious to find a solution that out-performs the original". That goal remains precisely the same today.

The people at TMS believe that quality service is a direct result of dedicated professionals working together for a common ideal: The highest grade of finished product possible. Our objective at TMS is to provide the finest service for any size job - from the smallest repair to the largest installation.

TMS originally focused on providing repair and maintenance services for existing control systems, calling on over 35 years of combined experience. From the beginning, our approach has been the same: When the job is complete, the system must be more reliable, simpler to maintain, easier to operate, and more cost-effective to run. We soon branched into product development by drawing on our unequaled ability to provide unique and creative solutions.

TMS's design and component selection criteria reflect the goal of enabling the system's operators to perform the bulk of all equipment service needs without calling on outside help. As an example, an early product engineered by TMS involved a monitor display that identified which of several elevator safety interlocks was preventing elevator operation. This greatly simplified servicing of the elevator by the local technicians.

In the Marine field, our technicians have become familiar with many types of boiler control systems on both US- and foreign-flagged vessels. Electronic and pneumatic systems installed as long as 35 years ago have been brought up to original manufacturer's specifications. Where necessary or advantageous, sub-systems have been designed or re-engineered, replacing obsolete components with state-of-the-art equipment while still maintaining original signal protocols. In addition to steam plants, we have also been able to bring controls on diesel plants into proper operation.

TMS has been involved in the reflagging of a number of cargo ships. Because of the unique skills of one of our technicians, we were able to convert an existing French language computer program for vessel spares inventory management into an English version for the crew to use. The user's manual was also translated. Other projects have included modifying various pieces of shipboard safety and control equipment to satisfy US Coast Guard regulations.

Technical Marine Service has expanded to include projects at many land-based industrial sites, with projects from Electrical Generation Boiler Management to Wastewater Control on the books. Our LevelCom tank level indicators can be found in locations around the world.
